“Rarely does one see a squirrel tremble.”
Cue the trumpets! It was coffee and the papers on the deck this morning for the first time this season, and the sun was so bright I felt like the Mad Hatter moving from chair to chair to avoid the glare. Gracie came with me and she found the shade. While there, I noticed the deck needs some more sweeping because of the rain storms, and I’ll do that later as I intend to spend most of the day there with book (disguised as my iPad) in hand.
Tonight is the first play of the season, and it is at the Cape Playhouse. The Hound of the Baskervilles is the play, but, according to the review, it,” … is absurd. Ridiculous. Overblown,” but then the critic goes on to say, ” But please, please don’t let that stop you, because those are exactly the things that make it an extremely successful, albeit odd, twist on the old Sherlock Holmes yarn.” I am curious and a bit uneasy. I always think of Sherlock Holmes as a character with whom you don’t meddle, but I will reserve judgment until I see the play.
I woke up when it was almost light, and I heard the chorus of birds greeting the new day. The air was filled with bird songs, and I stayed awake a while to listen. It is a perfect way to start the day, with a joyous sound. I fell asleep again but I think I might have been smiling.
The gray spawns of Satan have not been around. It seems they have been replaced by the evil red spawns who have been known to attack their grey cousins. The red spawns are small enough to fit in between the wires of the squirrel proof feeders, and when I see them at those feeders, I run out to the deck like a screaming mad woman. Well, actually, I am a screaming mad woman with mad having all sorts of connotations. Maybe, once the deck season starts in earnest, the spawns will stay away. I can only hope, but if that doesn’t work, I’m thinking a weapon might be what I need. Maybe I’ll try a potato gun. They can always eat the ammo.

The big one between ENGLAND and that other team kicks off at 2.45 pm EST, enjoy the game. I am resplendent in an England home jersey and will be making the short trip to see the match at the Red Fox English Pub in Royal Oak.

The swedes were tired now and i think we are the English team only leads by one goal ::-) But there’s one half still to play 🙂

It was a terrific match, we were in a very rowdy bar watching. Still don’t really like your Bosnian Ibrahim, especially as he sledged Joe Hart after Swedens second goal.

Gentlemen, I didn’t even think to watch, sorry! I just sat around and read all day; in fact, I just got dressed as I have to leave for the play at 7:15.

I’m on the lookout for that squirrel. I figure his armor would shine in the sun and give me fair warning.
Squirrel songs are not easy to find so I am glad you appreciate them! They are pretty funny!

Forgive me for not understanding your campaign against squirrels. It seems you complain that they “steal” food intended for the birds. Do you have signs that say “this food is for the birds?” Can squirrels read? They’re just hungry little animals. I will concede that hunger for electrical wiring might be cause for concern/ire, but can you really get mad because they’re trying to get to food that’s teasing, taunting, tempting them? Spawns of Satan seems a little harsh.

What about the spawn who gnawed off the paint from the quite expensive deck chairs? He woke me up with that sound and I can’t think the chair arms were taunting and teasing him!
I have left corn for the spawns as well as other kinds of squirrel food, but how do they thank me for this kindness? They crawl into the feeders.
One red spawn has his foot caught in a cage and I tried to free him. He tried to bite me. Okay, fear you might say which could be true, but then I had to use my phone to push his foot free, and he attacked it, chattered at me and took off.
They attack each other! Spawns I say! Spawns!

I don’t hate them for eating the bird food. I hate them for going from the bird food to my attic and thence to my pantry and knocking crockery all over the place. And then, being too stupid to go back out the way they got in, they endeavored to remove a window pane by chewing through the frame.
Red, Grey or Black, they are all Spawns of Satan!
And now they’ve called in reinforcements from the Chipmunks.

We had much the same weather over here today but I didn’t see much of it since I worked far from any windows 🙂 But it was nice that it didn’t rain when I came home. It will tomorrow however so I had to mow the lawn today and now I they day sort of has derailed some. I was late writing my blog and late reading blog, this is actually the only one I’ve read today 🙂
We have cute red squirrels in the forest but they are way to shy to come to my garden around 100 yards from the protecting forest. We most likely don’t have any martens here now since I see the squirrels quite often now days.
Back to tv, there’s still one half left of the match and the swedes can still turn it around, I hope 🙂

It was a beautiful day, all day, though it didn’t get really warm: 65° was the high. I did sit outside and read for a while this afternoon.
These are not cute-these red squirrels of mine. They are vicious little beasts. They have run off the grey ones for which, I suppose, I should be thankful, but I am always afraid they’ll go after Gracie who is not fond of them either.
