Otsuyu Nakagawa quote
November 18, 2012 at 1:49 pm
Your title quote made me curious. I found the whole poem, which is beautiful, but not much about the writer.
Nakagawa Otsuyu (1675 – 1739) Haiku poet and painter
The year has turned its circle,
The seasons come and go.
The harvest all is gathered in
And chilly north winds blow.
Orchards have shared their treasures,
The fields, their yellow grain,
So open wide the doorway-
Thanksgiving comes again!
Autumn is marching on: even the scarecrows are wearing dead leaves.

Thanks for posting that, Birgit. I read the poem and took the last line as I thought it best summed up my post, but I didn’t think of posting the whole poem.
I don’t know a thing about the author either.
