“Spring, summer, and fall fill us with hope; winter alone reminds us of the human condition.”

It hasn’t been the best of mornings though it is a pretty day with the sun glinting off the snow. When I let the dog out, I could see how much snow had fallen as it was piled high on the back deck. I had a bit of trouble opening the storm door and had to push the snow away. Gracie waited then slid out the door and stood at the top of the stairs wondering, I guessed, if she really needed to go that badly. She did. I worried, but she made it without falling. I opened the front door next and could see my papers lying on the top of the pile left by the plow. From the house to the papers seemed miles away. There had to be at least 10 or 12 inches of snow. It was if I was being taunted by the papers. How much did I want them? I put on socks and shoes and plodded my way to the papers then stepped in my footprints back to the house. My shoes and my pants to the knees were covered in snow, but I had my Sunday papers. I filled my cup with coffee then sat down to read the Globe. I reached for the coffee and missed. I overturned the cup and coffee spilled all over the table, the floor and parts of the paper. I cursed. That was my morning.

It is only 18˚ but I have a high of 25˚ to look forward to this afternoon. The low will be 10˚. I am not going anywhere even after Skip comes to free my car and shovel the walk. The pretty day doesn’t entice me at all to leave the warmth of the house.

Winter waited in the wings a long time, but it has arrived with great fanfare. All last year we didn’t have a winter storm which dropped as much snow as this one. We got walloped, but the snow is light and fluffy which is a good thing. The tree branches have almost no snow left on them. The wind took care of that.

I’m sitting here comfy in my sweatshirt, flannel pants and warm slippers. I just poured a cup of coffee destined, I hope, to stay in the cup. It is hot and delicious. The animals are asleep. Music is playing. Alexa has chosen well. All is now well with my world.

That was a lot of snow! The one we have now will most likely melt away this week, if not by the warmer weather so by the help of the rain they predict will come.
After that we’ll get the same ammount of snow we have now and by the next weekend it will be nasty cold again but that is so far away that I can’t see it as anything else than wild guesses 🙂

I always feelka bit depressed when I do that with my coffee but lately it has been Albin doing it for me 🙂 Still I did feel a bit depressed even if it didn’t take long to make another cup.

I wouldn’t leave my home if it wasn’t for my job 🙂 I didn’t win the lottery this week either so I’ll have to work for at least one more I’m afraid 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
It was a lot of snow. Now the steps are clear and the de-icer is on them so the snow and ice should melt. It will make it safe for Gracie. The warm weather should arrive mid-week.

Luckily I had a pot full of coffee. I cursed at the clean up I had to do. It had spilled all over.

I have cleaned the living room, but I haven’t brought the Christmas stuff down the cellar. I spent a long time getting rid of the needles and putting things back where they belong. I decided I didn’t want to go up and down the stairs. I’ll save that for tomorrow.

      Enjoy your day!!

    Hi Kat,
That was an aggravating morning. Trudging through the snow to retrieve The Globe only to bathe it in coffee. Sorry. But at least it was only part of The Globe and there was more coffee.

I saw that you all got hammered yesterday. There was a lot more here than they at first predicted. I think there was about 8 inches. But it was light and fluffy and I was able to sweep the steps and walks enough for the dogs to go out. They weren’t happy. Neither one of them likes precipitation blowing at them. Can’t say I blame them. I wasn’t happy having to stand outside with them while they did their business.

Today is lovely and sunny and wicked cold. But I am plowed and shoveled out and all is right with the world.

    Enjoy the evening. Stay warm.

      Hi Caryn,
That’s true: there was more coffee and the rest of the Globe. At the time, though, the positives escaped me.

We ended up around 9 inches on top of the 4 we had the other day. It was too high to sweep, but by the late afternoon Skip had come and both the front and back were cleared. The de-icer cleared Gracie’s steps right down to the wood.

It was freezing here as well. Right now it is 19˚ and tonight will get down to 10˚. Tuesday will be 50˚. Crazy weather!

Have a great evening! You too stay warm!!!!!

The sun was out all day with temperatures in the 40s. Tomorrow the big warm up begins for highs in the 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday. It’s a rollercoaster ride with forecast for a chance of freezing mix on Saturday when the next cold front arrives. This next one will be a Pacific rather than an Arctic front. Goodbye Alberta and hello Southwest Texas. This kind of ups and downs are not uncommon here but the lows and the highs are further apart thanks to global warming.

      Bob,
We don’t get that big a warm up until July. I’m happy with the 50’s coming next week, but I have to get through the next few days of highs in the 20’s and lows in the teens.

We don’t usually have winters with so many days in the 50’s. It is an interesting trend!
