Birgit,
It is serendipity. I listened and knew it was the perfect song!
The heat is so bad in the western US that American Airlines has cancelled all flights into Phoenix. It is 124˚ in some places. We had that chilly humidity until a bit ago as the sun finally came out.
There are very few albums that completely grab me and won’t let go. Norah’s debut album (“Come Way With Me,” from which this is taken) is one of those albums. (Phoebe Snow’s first, Pink Martini’s first, Bette Midler’s first, Bruce Springsteen’s first are also in this elite group).
The minute I heard Norah’s album I simply *knew* she was going to be a star. And she was, even though, in my opinion, she’s never matched the brilliance of “Come Away With Me.”
Not sure Nellie McKay feels the same way. The title of her first album, “Get Away From Me,” was inspired by Norah. However, I’ve never known if it was a nod of appreciation or a mean dig. Either way, she also made a great debut. This is probably my favorite from that album:

im6,
I totally understand why this song is your favorite. As soon as she started singing, I knew.
The last few weeks I seem to be playing a few singers who are favorites of yours. I’m glad for that.
