“On a lazy Saturday morning when you’re lying in bed, drifting in and out of sleep, there is a space where fantasy and reality become one. “

Last night was cold, down to the 30’s. I burrowed under the down comforter, slept longer than I have lately, woke up to let the dogs out then went back to bed. I slept another hour with the dogs joining me. The house was cold when I finally woke up so I turned up the heat. I’m comfortable now.

The weather is lovely. It will reach the 50’s and be sunny most of the day. Both doors are opened. The dogs love to look out the front door to see what’s happening in the neighborhood. They alert me when anyone goes by the house whether on foot or in a car.

Gwen had more testing all day yesterday. The vet called and said her numbers were still high, but she had gained more weight, a good sign. Her insulin stays the same, and she doesn’t need to go back for two weeks and even then only for a single test. She looks alert, moves around a bit more and the litter box stays dry far longer, more good signs. I just hope her count lowers.

Henry comes in the dog door at least once a day. It has only taken four years and Nala to prod him. I was shocked the first couple of times. Now I’m beginning to raise my expectations.

When I was a kid, this was my favorite day of the week. I didn’t have any have-to-dos. From the time I woke up until I sat down to hot dogs, beans and brown bread for supper, the whole day was mine. In the winter, it was matinee movie day. In the fall, it was mostly a ride my bike day. I used to ride to different parts of my town and sometimes to the next town for a change of scenery. I’d try to take different routes to the same places. One town over had railroad tracks, an old station and daily trains. I used to sit on a bench in front of the station and wait for the train. I always wanted to be on that train.

My brother used to ride his bike to Horn Pond, in a different town over, to go fishing. Sometimes I’d ride with him, and we’d both fish. I remember catfish on the hook. We always released. We never ate catfish. My father used to say they were bottom feeders as if that were such a bad thing. He did eat other bottom feeding fish like haddock and cod and for reasons unknown only reserved his disdain for the catfish. It took me a while before I’d eat catfish. I remember I had catfish nuggets as an appetizer, my first time tasting them. It was not my last.

We’ve had a rather nice day here with lots of sunshine but also the surprising shower passing by. The rain was nasty cold so the temperature dropped a lot when they passed.

Great to read that Gwen is more stable now and I’m pretty sure the counts will lower pretty soon too.

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Hi Christer,
It got warmer by the early afternoon, and the sun stayed around. Tonight, though, is really cold, down to 36˚. Maybe we’ll have our first frost.

Gwen looks so much better. She had dandruff which the vet said could have been caused by the diabetes or stress. Her fur is clean now. Things are looking up.

      Enjoy your Sunday!!

    Hi Kat,

Today has been gorgeous. Not a cloud in the sky, calm winds and a high of 68°. As usual we went out for a drive and had a late lunch of Chinese food. My spouse found another hole in the wall Chinese restaurant in a strip shopping center in Watauga, another bedroom community north east of Ft. Worth. My wife enjoys barbecue pork egg foo young with the gloppy sauce. Most Chinese restaurants we’ve found don’t have the gloppy sauce with their egg foo young. This place has both the barbecue pork on their lunch menu along with the egg foo young and barbecue pork fried rice, their portions are huge and their prices are reasonable. Before long we will have discovered every good Chinese Restaurant in Tarrant County. We do realize that egg foo young is not real Chinese food, but created here in America. 🙂

I hate fishing for two reasons. One is that when I was a kid we would fish off of an open boat in the Great South Bay of Long Island. Every time we went fishing, we only caught a sunburn. The other reason is my lack of patience to sit on a dock and wait for a fish to bite. The local fishmonger is a better choice with already cleaned fish.

I’m also not a fan of catfish. Once, in the late 1980s we flew a small airplane to a restaurant along the banks of Lake Texhoma with a couple of friends. They specialized in and only served fresh fried catfish. They had a short grass airstrip alongside the restaurant. The catfish didn’t thrill me at all because it’s just another mild white meat fish. The cornbread coating, the French fries and the short flight was the best part. 🙂

      Hi Bob,
Today stayed nice but tonight is really cold, maybe even cold enough for the first frost. Tomorrow will be in the mid 50’s, a nice temperature for November.

Not a Chinese restaurant where I’ve eaten has ever had barbecue anything. Maybe it isn’t here in this part of the country. The egg foo young has a thick sauce here. When I get it to go, the sauce is in a separate container. The joining happens at home. I like egg foo young. Every now and then I treat myself to Chinese for dinner and for next day lunch as even the small containers have a lot.

My brother was a fly fishing guide for Orvis. He even tied his own flies, and Orvis hired him for fishing shows. His son Tim is also an avid fisherman They both fished from the shore. My brother used to go to Monomoy Island in Chatham. He had to keep an eye out for great whites as they love Chatham.

I like whitefish which is probably why I like catfish.

The Chatham airport has a restaurant which gets rave reviews. I have yet ti eat there. I’m guessing it is about time.
